Best Neighbourhood in Edmonton

Vue Weekly recently held it’s Best of Edmonton 2014 reader’s poll and one of the categories was “Best Neighbourhood.” Now, polls like this are entirely subjective because it’s the readers’ opinions and the winner is the community that gets the most votes. It’s not as if there was any scientific data analysis or statistics crunching done but I still thought it would be fun to profile the winning community here. So let’s learn a little more about the Vue Weekly readers’ “Best Neighbourhood” in Edmonton - Old Strathcona.

Old Strathcona is part of the Strathcona community within the University area of Edmonton. Some of the buildings date back to the early 1900’s but the community is a great mix of historical and modern architecture. It is pedestrian friendly and has many recreational amenities from Queen Elizabeth Park near the river to Mill Creek Ravine Park in the east.

In Old Strathcona there is an abundance of retail, dining and entertainment options. There are ten theater groups that call Old Strathcona home as well as over 100 dining options just within that neighbourhood. The C & E Railway Museum is also a great historical destination with Strathcona. The neighbourhood also offers great public transportation.

The schools for the area are Old Scona Academic High School, the King Edward School, and the Academy at King Edward as well as several others.

There really are some great homes available here if you are thinking about moving to the neighbourhood. Strathcona community realtors were active in the month of September, having listed 11 homes which contributed to a total number of 20 single family homes for sale in the area. For this period, Strathcona community realtors sold 3 single family homes, which tells us that we have 6.6 months supply available. We see the market here as a buyer’s market which should cause prices to stabilize and possibly correct going forward. Visit our community page to shop for homes in Strathcona.
