Updating Your Home On A Budget

Do you feel like your home needs a fresh look but you don’t have a lot of money to invest? Don’t worry, there are things you can do on just about any budget that will brighten or update your space. Here are a few ideas to help you make your home feel revitalized.

$100 Budget
One of the best things you can do on a $100 budget is paint a room (two if they are small). A fresh coat of paint in a great color can completely transform the feel and look of any room. You might also consider painting furniture that looks worn and boring. A coat of white or black makes a dresser look like new and become a statement piece.

If you don’t need to paint, you can invest in new accessories such as pillows, throw blankets, wall art or colourful knick-knacks. A combination of new pillows on a couch with a fluffy blanket and a stylish lamp on the table next to it can make your room feel bright and fresh.

$1,000 Budget
Now you have a little room to do some bigger updates with a $1,000 budget. You could replace the outdated chandelier in your dining room and address some things in the kitchen too. Think about updating the hardware on your cabinets, getting a new faucet, and adding a backsplash.

If your cabinets need more than just hardware, you can paint them or look at options to replace the cabinet doors without replacing the entire cabinet. All of this could be said for a bathroom as well. New hardware, lighting and tiles can look like a full remodel without the expense of one.

$5,000 Budget
This is the budget that will let you make some serious changes. In a family room you could buy new furniture, an area rug, window coverings, paint and accessories. You could invest in new counters in the kitchen or a new wood floor. In the bathroom, you could retile the shower and floor, install a new vanity and lighting and get new plumbing fixtures.

The best thing to do with part of this budget is to invest a small portion of it on professionals. Hire a designer for a consultation to advise what area of your home can benefit the most from your investment and what you can do within your budget. If you’ll be painting several rooms, hire a professional painting company. They’ll get the work done within a couple of hours and will do a better job than you can do on your own.
