    The Blackburne community is one of the more established residential areas of the greater Blackmud district. This community was officially incorporated as a suburb of Edmonton in the early 1980s and the development of the region has progressed from then into the present. Blackburne is situated in the very northeast corner of the district, just south of Anthony Henday Drive.

    Blackburne includes a large amount of the Blackmud Creek Ravine within its boundaries, and Blackburne Creek Park is a big attraction for outdoor enthusiasts.

    Homes for sale in Blackburne are predominately single family dwellings on private lots. The distinct street plan for this area uses a number of circles to discourage vehicle through traffic, which makes the section very pedestrian friendly. Trails and footpaths are also dominant in this section, and walking and cycling within the
    neighborhood a common activity. Further hiking through Blackburne Creek Park is a well-liked wilderness activity and this preserved land also has spots for fishing on 
    the creek.

    Bus stops are also well dispersed throughout the residential section, so inhabitants have good access to public transportation for shopping or entertainment in adjacent suburbs. South Edmonton Common is just over a kilometer to the north east and is a popular destination for purchasing practical goods, and for spending leisure time.

    Parents in Blackburne will find that nearby educational facilities are well rated and cater to most grade levels. Monsignor Fee Otterson School has quality teaching for elementary grades and higher, while the Ellerslie Road Pre-school serves for early learning and for out of school care services.
