Description

The actual community of Bonnie Doon, within the greater area by the same name, is located on the southwest border. Mill Creek Ravine forms a natural boundary to the west, while Connors Road on the east and 82nd Avenue to the south are the other lines of delineation. This creates a relatively well-sized neighborhood that uses a somewhat open grid plan and incorporates parks and natural landscaping into the environment.

This established area became an official part of Edmonton in 1912, but fuller development did not begin until the 1950s. The result is a very suburban community that has a quieter atmosphere and homes for sale on fair fixed private lots. The area is pedestrian and cyclist friendly within the boundaries of the community but bus stops throughout the neighborhood and connection to the nearby Central Station LRT stop make traveling much easier.

Many of the dwellings in this area are single-family homes, and Bonnie Doon is considered a family friendly neighborhood. A number of private and public educational institutions can accommodate learning needs, including the Rutherford School, Conseil Scolaire Centre-Nord, and Ecole Maurice-Lavallee.

While the Bonnie Doon Mall on the east side of town can provide for many of the residential necessities, the Bonnie Doon Food Mart is also located within the development for quick access to groceries. The Mall provides many indoor entertainments, yet, Bonnie Doon is popular with outdoor enthusiasts as well. Along with wilderness trails through Mill Creek Ravine, the nearby Muttart Conservatory is also a popular spot for family day trips and cultural recreation.
