    Description

    Hazeldean occupies the southwest corner of the Millcreek area and is directly north of the industrial district that provides employment for some of the community residents. Although this neighborhood has a grid pattern street plan that is prevalent for this area, Hazeldean’s roads are slightly more open, which gives residents both greater privacy and larger lots.

    Homes for sale are mostly single and multi-family dwellings that were built in the 1950s, but because the area has excellent access to the downtown core, University of Alberta, and the beautiful Mill Creek Ravine many of the older homes are being compromised in favor of newer, larger single-family homes and side by side duplexes.

    The area lends itself to foot traffic, with natural landscaping and well maintained, paved paths that run along the roadways. Many bus stops are also dispersed around the community, and these connect with adjoining residential and shopping areas. Retail and service businesses can be found mainly along the boundary roads, which includes dining at Bauernschmaus Restaurant and grocery purchases at the Wholesale Club. Local businesses such as Spa de Sol are also found within the community.

    Hazeldean has a well rated educational system and several options for parents and children. Among these are the J.H. Picard School, Hazeldean Elementary School, and Whole Child Dayhome for pre-school and daycare services. Health facilities are easy to get to in the neighborhood and are provided by the Good Samaritan Care Centre.

    With Mill Creek Ravine wilderness located to the east, this subdivision is popular for outdoor recreations. The parks in town also have playground equipment and sporting fields, along with benches to rest and have a picnic. This family-friendly atmosphere is strongly supported by the community league and has a very integrated culture.
