The Avonmore community occupies the southeast corner of the greater Millcreek area and abuts 75th Street to the east, which gives driving commuters a quick ride into Edmonton city centre. The neighborhood is very pedestrian friendly, and wide roadways include paved sidewalks for safe travel. Bus stops are also located through the community, so commuter access to the rest of our city is simple with public transportation.

The tree-lined roads give the section a suburban feel and homes for sale in Avonmore incorporate natural landscaping into the design. This is considered a highly family-friendly community that encourages residential involvement in events and activities that are hosted by the community league throughout the year. These include bake sales, raffles, and seasonal festivals, as well as wilderness excursion in Mill Creek Ravine. Avonmore School is the main educational institution for this subdivision, but parents may also choose to send children to nearby St. James School, which is within walking distance of most residences.

Dwellings in Avonmore are primarily single family homes, with some duplexes. As a mostly residential neighborhood, shopping may be done along the business sections of the boundary roads, or at the Bonnie Doone Mall to the north.
